“On another occasion Claver was in the main square inveighing against sexual vice.  A Spanish woman of the streets laughed at him and yelled insults when he began his customary reading of the Gospel.  The saint held up his crucifix and said: ‘Since you wish to go to Hell, here is the Divine Judge to pronounce judgment.’  The woman, terrified, was overcome, and brought her repentance to Claver.  This conversion caused a great stir.” (Fr.
