THE LAST ... SUPPER... an old legend about the painter Leonardo Da Vinci and an unknown young man

An old legend about the painter Leonardo and an unknown young man...in the world-famous, famous painting of the Last Supper...over 500 years ago...

Leonardo Da Vinci in the city of Milan from 1495 was looking for figures for the painting of his most famous painting - The Last Supper. He wanted to paint the apostles according to the people he chose and who embodied the painter's conviction... that their figure and faces would show the expression of the apostles. He often passed through the city Milan and noticed the people and men whom his inner spiritual vision marked as suitable for the face and figure of the apostle in the painting... That is why the famous painting shows the people of that time who lent their figure, face and appearance to individual apostles and thus became immortal ...living forever in this mysterious image...

Leonardo wandered around the city looking...but the most difficult thing was to find a figure and a face for Jesus...young John and Judas. For a long time he could not find anyone who would embody his vision of Jesus...John and Judas...

Once he was on St. mass in the church in Milan...he went up to the choir, where there was an organ and singers...he sat there and looked down and then at the singers accompanying St. mass with singing... Here he saw one among the singers, a young man... about 17 years old, who amazed him... His face was so pure, angelically beautiful, that at that moment his voice told him... I have him... finally... The unknown young man also sang a solo song beautifully, and with his beautiful, shapely figure and unearthly clean, radiant face, he was the exact role model he was looking for... His face and eyes were full of kindness, love and tenderness... like a face of Jesus...and the young, beautiful figure belonged to the dearest apostle of Jesus...his pure and holy John...

The more the amazed painter observed this young man in the choir, the more he became sure... this is the one he had been looking for for so long... After the end of St. mass, the other singers and the organist left the choir, and there remained only an unknown young man kneeling, in deep prayer and immersed in the spiritual world, watered and swaying in God's arms... his bowed face literally shone... because of his purity and love was a faithful reflection of holiness ... In his eyes was the light of Jesus, Jesus was looking through him, who thus fills his devoted, pure, loving souls ... with heavenly shine and spiritual power and light ...

Leonardo waited for this unknown, extraordinary young man to compose himself and when he got up and left...Leonardo followed him and approached him in front of the church...he introduced himself as a painter and asked this young man if he could paint him...Young man he was surprised and at first worried about who this person was. But then they talked and the young man finally agreed to paint... Leonardo learned that he came from an impoverished family, where their father died and they were struggling with their mother and siblings alone.. .Leonardo also offered him money for painting... The young man said that he didn't want it himself... but his mother needed it... so he will give it to her and for the family.

And so they agreed on the appointed hours, when the young man would go to the painter's studio and sit there as a model for the painting...Leonardo actually painted this young man twice...he put his clear eyes and face to the figure of Jesus and then he painted the whole figure of the young man separately as the pure and faithful apostle John...he painted Jesus in the end, repainting and adding the figure of a mature man...because the young man was an ideal model for the young St. John...

According to the Gospels, Jesus found in St. John the purest soul, devoted and faithful... there was no glimmer of darkness... it was their pure and clear light of spiritual love... because John really loved Christ with all his heart... which he confirmed as the only one of the apostles heroically under the cross embracing the grief-stricken Virgin Mary... it was a mysterious, mystical love of two souls... Just as pardoned souls love their source of life and love... God himself... this mystical union of the human soul connected through love to God is the highest possible spiritual perfection of a soul living in a body on earth and the love of God... This mystical union of love was also experienced by many saints and it was a true reflection of happiness in heaven...

The human soul...created by God can never and anywhere find its peace, fulfillment and love...only in God...nothing else can fulfill it...no earthly pleasures, experiences and riches...And he also had this knowledge the famous artist Leonardo... when he painted a beautiful and clean young man...
Finally, after several days, St. John painted as well as the face of Jesus... he painted his figure only at the end. The young man received a reward and left with thanks...
Then Leonardo painted the other apostles for almost 3 years... and the background... the room where the Last Supper took place... Only the last apostle was missing - the dark, desperate, unhappy figure of the traitor Judas... And he could not find such a person... Leonardo went to public executions of criminals, but even there he could not find a suitable figure of Judas... With

his inner vision, Leonardo searched for the figure of a man ,corrupted by sin...where sin and darkness could be seen from his face and eyes...a man completely corrupted, devoted to sin and pleasure, greedy, treacherous and shallow...In those criminals, bad people...after all, there were some a little lamp of hidden good...His Judas must be completely corrupted...calculation, avarice, desire for money, moral and moral corruption...immorality...This is what Judas was supposed to be...The appointed time was approaching when he had finishing the picture...and he still didn't have Judas...

Until one evening, he was passing through the city of Milan and suddenly he heard a noise and a thud in a ditch next to the road... He looked there and was surprised to see a man rolling in dirt and mud, in garbage, in leaking urine and a cesspool... he couldn't help himself. build... Here the artist had some inner voice... pick it up... so Leonardo overcame his aversion to the disgusting stench and pulled this battered, dirty man out of the ditch onto the road... Here he was surprised and horrified by the appearance, face and eyes of this man , drunk, smelly and ruined ... he recognized the Judas he was looking for...

This is exactly him...he has everything that Judas also...corruption, ugliness, emptiness and darkness of sins...the face was empty, marred by lines of sins, drunkenness, immorality and lust...Nothing good radiated from him.. .just bare spiritual darkness, darkness, shallowness and emptiness... He told the drunkard that he would give him money if he allowed himself to be painted... the drunkard muttered something unintelligible... but when he heard the money... he immediately agreed to everything... .He was already looking forward ...how he would buy wine with the money and get drunk and then go to harlots and enjoy the sins of the flesh...

And so the painter dragged the drunkard into his studio... To his surprise, he realized that under the mask of debauchery, alcoholism, human depravity, spiritual corruption... he was a young person, but he looked much older... he had the face of an aged, decrepit 80-year-old an old man ... a human wreck in body and spirit... How could such a young man turn into such a disgusting monster, with a gummy stench and tattered remnants of clothes, which they saw on him as flânforce. They showed many injuries and sores on his ravaged body.. .The drunkard didn't notice that anymore, he didn't care... he didn't mind that he looked like a stinking, rotting corpse that came out of the grave... In his face and appearance, Leonardo recognized the dark face of Judas the traitor... And so he went to the Last the last Judas also got dinner...

Leonardo gave the drunkard something to eat and some clothes...he also told him to wash...so that he could even endure painting in the stench that made him vomit and made white circles in his eyes and weakness to fall off...This is really the deepest human the bottom, what I finished here for painting... said a horrified Leonardo.

When the drunkard became a little more human, Leonardo asked him... how could he get down like that and how old is he? The drunkard grumbled something, it was obvious that he would prefer not to say anything about it... but Leonardo promised him some extra money if he tells him his human story... because it is impossible for him to be born as such a monstrous monstrosity...

Finally, the drunkard and vagabond began to speak slowly... My father died when I was still small and our mother was troubled with us children... she led me to prayer and a virtuous life, although we were poor, we lived honestly and honestly ...Sometimes we even begged as children...when I was young I was religious and even thought about going to a monastery or becoming a priest and serving God...but poverty pushed us down...and when I was 17 years old I was recruited into troops, because I had nothing to live on...

There was a sea of malice, immorality and cruelty... there I corrupted myself... As a young soldier, everyone treated me like a rag... like a slave... older soldiers treated me they often beat me...and also taught me to drink...soldiers drank a lot after the battle, or in the barracks...and also for a poor salary they went to prostitutes and prostitutes for money...So I also went...I did everything he rejected in himself, the whole faith from childhood and youth and I became sinful, depraved, indifferent... Only to enjoy... wine and women... and so I got used to such a life... I could no longer be without wine and sex... I spent all my military pay on that... In wine and sex I wanted to forget my ruined life and ruin. I couldn't even fight anymore, so I was thrown out of the army... and so I started wandering and begging... I live on the street and feed myself only on rotting food waste that I find thrown away... I am like a hungry dog that does not despise even a carcass... I started stealing and beating because of wine and money... I was beaten badly many times , if they caught me ... they should have hanged me already ... but I escaped ... But I will be happy if this suffering of mine ends and I die ... And I am 20 years old ...
Leonardo, who was listening, paled at the horror that was told and by destruction...he couldn't even believe it...this young man looked like an 80 year old man over the grave...

Oh well...I'll paint you and give you money for it...although you'll drink it in a moment...But you could still come to your senses and save your immortal soul from destruction, if you're going to lose your body anyway...
The drunkard lowered his eyes and looked sadly at the ground... It's too late, too late... I'm already damned... I can't change anymore, I tried... but only for a while and then I started drinking again. ..I don't want to live anymore, what's the point of this kind of life, that's why I live like this, so that I can die faster... and have peace... added the drunkard sadly...

And so Leonardo painted the mutilated facial features of the new Judas...and the drunkard sat as a model in front of the painter...Finally the character of the treacherous Judas was finished and Leonardo paid the drunkard the money...The drunkard begged the master to show him the whole picture of the Last Supper.. .Leonardo surprised by such a strange request of a drunkard, who would not expect any spiritual or artistic interest... he uncovered a picture covered with a sheet... The drunkard stood in front of the picture and looked at it carefully... he saw himself there as Judas...

You did a perfect job with that Judas, it's all me...a traitor to God and sold to the devil...the drunkard broke the silence and Leonardo was amazed by the drunkard's words...
Then the drunkard remained silent and as if he was having a hard time making up his mind to some terrible confession.. .walked closer to the painting of the Last Supper and stood in front of Jesus and John, sitting next to Jesus...Leonardo watched quietly excitedly...that's Jesus and St.John...explained Leonardo...but a drunkard, as if knew...

After a moment of silence, the drunkard sadly added...that Saint John also succeeded...he is exactly the same...as I was...once upon a time...when I still belonged to God...The drunkard sobbed heavily and was shocked Leonardo still didn't understand... Then the drunkard said in a painful voice... once as a 17-year-old young man I loved God, he was everything to me... in the church I sang in the choir with the singers and then an unknown man approached me... an artist and a painter and he wanted to paint me in his image...he painted me too...

Amazed Leonardo opened his mouth...surprised...he couldn't believe it...So you are also Saint John...The drunkard lowered his head and nodded...I've been here before...and I stood...Horrible. ..shouted Leonardo in shock...

You also gave my eyes to Jesus...the drunkard admitted with tears...Leonardo raised his hands...oh my God...I have you twice...You have...but that's all...the crying drunkard admitted ,lotor...and Judas, because he too betrayed his Christ and surrendered himself to the power of the devil...

Leonardo still tried the words of salvation...come to your senses...return to God and with sincere repentance you can still save yourself...
The drunkard stood silent, lifeless... and then added... It's too late... it's too late...
Leonardo managed... as long as you're alive... it's not too late... it's still possible... But the drunkard shook his head... I'm already too much in the power of the devil, alcohol and passion...

And so the sad Leonardo paid the drunkard the promised money...when he took it in his hand...his eyes sparkled with a dark expression...like Judas once...for 30 pieces of silver...the drunkard went into the unknown...he disappeared. ..Leonardo never saw him again...After a while, the servants brought news in the winter...that outside the city they found a frozen wanderer...who was wearing ragged clothes...the kind that Leonardo had once given him...
Then Leonardo with great pain and sorrow he fully understood one great truth of life...

Between love and hate...between godliness and ungodliness...between truth and lies...between purity and the dung of corruption and immorality...between an honest, brave life and between a corrupt, depraved life and between salvation and damnation. ...is really the THINNEST...WALL....

Poor man does not have his own strength to save himself from the evil of the world and the corruption of life... only with the great power and grace of a merciful God is it possible to save a person, his own, immortal soul...
Everything else human is changeable, fragile, unstable and transient ...like dust in the wind...

Duke Sforza was an influential patron of the local Dominican monastery, in which he wanted to be buried in the family mausoleum after his death, but he died in captivity in the French castle of Loches.

Da Vinci began his magnificent work on the wall in the northern part of the refectory of the church with the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in 1495.
The painting was created between 1495 and 1497, but no later than 1498, as evidenced by the deed of donation in De divina proportione . which was written by Luca Pacioli to the Duke of Milan, Lodovico Sforza .
