Singapore Introduces New Family Support Measures: With the country’s fertility rate falling to a record low of just 0.87 children per woman, Singapore is introducing a major new support package for families. From 2027, the government will provide nearly S$70,000 (about US$55,000) in support for each Singaporean child from birth to age 17. The package includes cash payments, childcare credits, healthcare and education support.

The bishop speaks of a “state of emergency”. Mother of Mercy Chapel in Columbus, Ohio, was already a beautiful Romanesque-style church, but later 20th-century alterations had diminished the coherence of its sanctuary. In 2025, William Heyer Architect replaced the small modern forward altar with a hand-carved wooden freestanding altar better suited to the character of the historic interior. The main intervention was the expansion of Rudolph Scheffler’s 1950s Christ the King apse mural. New saints and sacred symbols now occupy previously bare areas around the original composition.
