Canada's Bill C-9: another veiled attack on Christian belief

Canada's Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, is another veiled attack on Christian belief. It changes the criminal code to include measures to fight hate propaganda and hate-motivated crimes. The law creates new criminal offences for obstructing and intimidating access to places of worship, schools, seniors' residences and the display of hate symbols in public places. Readers may have already realized the problem with such law: who gets to define the meaning of "hate"?
To get a better idea of what the law could mean once passed we can look at the recent guilty decision against Finnish MP Paivi Rasanen. She expressed her Christian views in a pamphlet and for that she was convicted of "insulting" speech. When this happens everyone becomes afraid of speaking openly and freely.
Rasanen had written a pamphlet back in 2004 expressing Christian teaching on marriage and human sexuality. The court ruled the publication's content “insults homosexuals as a group.” She did not harass anyone. The …

Cardinal Francis Arinze, 93, spoke to PerMariam.com about the serious damage being caused to the sacred liturgy: "If a priest introduces parts of the Mass that are not approved, or removes parts that are, he causes damage to the Church. Even if his intentions were good, perhaps he thought, 'I want to make the Mass more interesting. I want to make it more personalised' – that's a mistake. He is wrong."

EXCLUSIVE Cardinal Arinze: Manner of celebrating the liturgy ‘shows what we believe’

VATICAN CITY (PerMariam) — Cardinal Arinze has highlighted the great need for reverence in the liturgy, warning that if priests invent new or unlawful aspects of the Mass themselves then they “damage” the Church.
The Church’s liturgical life is intimately linked to the practice of the faith, as summarized by the phrase “lex orandi, lex credendi” – the law of faith is the law of belief. For Francis Cardinal Arinze, former prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, this element is key, since a Mass which is poorly celebrated with irreverence, abuses or personal whims can turn people away from the Catholic faith.

Arinze, consecrated at the age of 32 to become the world’s youngest bishop at the time, has a storied career as a diocesan bishop in his native Nigeria, before being brought to the Vatican in 1984 for a long and distinguished service in the Roman Curia.

German-Speaking Countries to Include Homosexual Blessings in Benedictionale

Since 2019, the German-speaking 'Conference on the Liturgy' has been working on a new book of blessings Benedictionale. The Vatican signalled its openness to the project in 2023, with completion planned for 2029.
In an interview with katholisch.de on 9 April, the project's chairman, Benedictine Father Johannes Feierabend, said that the blessing formulas are "no longer formulated with priests and deacons in mind". Instead, they speak more generally of 'leadership'.
It is still unclear whether laypeople would conclude blessings of the congregation with “May the Lord bless you” or “May the Lord bless us”.
The new Benedictionale also includes blessings for homosexual and 'loving' couples: “We believe there should be a formula for this as well,” said Fr. Feierabend.
This was the “only point that immediately caught the eye” in the Vatican.
Bishop Stephan Ackermann of Trier suggested that the Vatican should draft such a formula. However, the German-speaking working group wants to write …More
